Cow racing, or "pacu jawi", is a thrilling Indonesian festival which sees competitors dragged through muddy paddy fields as their cling to the tails of two charging cows.

The tradition, which has been around for hundreds of years, celebrates the end of the rice harvest season.

The raucous event also allows sellers to show off their best bulls to buyers.

This race was filmed in Sawahlunto in West Sumatra today (August 26).

This pacu jawi or cow racing program was originally a farmers' event after the rice harvest. As a form of gratitude for the harvest they can and on the one hand also help to expel the soil which can then be reused to grow the next crop. But as the age of this event progressed and later became one of the attractions of both local and out-of-province tourists, there were even some foreign tourists watching this event to get a fantastic moment. International tourists usually come from Malaysia, Singapore and several other Asian countries and even Europe.

The long history of jawi pacemaker is still maintained today. The pacemaker procession is believed to be the same and unchanged from the procession passed down by the ancestors.Before Jawi's race took to the arena, there was an event first attended by Ninik Mamak and the community. First, the jawi is dressed and clothed, and given a name. Then paraded around the village. Participated in the procession, the bundo kanduang with lordship filled with food.

Before the race begins with eating together, eating bajamba. Then the race begins. Jawi is released one by one in muddy wet rice fields.
