An Indian software engineer has developed a humanoid robot capable of speaking Hindi, Bhojpuri, Marathi and English.

Ranjit Srivastava from the city of Ranchi, claims the robot is the world’s first Hindi speaking humanoid robot and India’s first lip-syncing robot. He developed the humanoid over the course of two years inspired by Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen.

The footage, captured on August 25, shows the humanoid, called Rashmi, expressing gratitude to her creator Srivastava.

Rashmi uses linguistic interpretation, artificial intelligence, visual data and facial recognition systems to act like a human.

The world's first Hindi speaking realistic humanoid robot has been developed by Ranjit Srivastava. The robot has been named as Rashmi. The developer hailing from Ranchi claimed that Rashmi can speak Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi along with English. The Humanoid Robot uses linguistic interpretation (LI), artificial intelligence (AI), visual data and facial recognition systems, the developer said. Srivastava, an MBA graduate, who has expertise in software development of more than 15 years, has developed the speaking robot in two years at a cost of Rs 50,000.
