Rescue workers took immense risk to rescue a stranded horse from a flooded river in Himalayas.

A member of the Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team ziplined across the flooded Yamuna river to reach the horse stranded on the other bank.

As he tied ropes around the horse, his colleagues pulled it to safety.

The rescue was a race against time as the swelling river threatened to flood the bank and sweep the horse away.

The heart-stopping rescue occurred in Uttarkashi district of Uttarkhand, India.

An SDRF member in Uttarkashi said: “The horse had been taken to the river by an illegal sand miner. He abandoned and ran away after the river suddenly started rising due to a flash flood.”

The Uttarkashi region in the Himalayas experiences frequent flash floods, landslides and heavy downpour during the monsoon season.
