The Bobtail, Shingleback or Sleepy Lizard (Tiliqua rugosa) is a common, large, slow-moving species of blue-tongued skink found in temperate and semi-arid areas of southern and central Australia. It has a short, stumpy tail and heavy, pinecone-like scales. Bobtail Lizards are live bearers, with females giving birth to two to four large young that remain close to their parents for several months. Bobtails are omnivorous, and eat a wide variety of snails, insects, carrion, leaves and flowers. They make good pets, and tame easily. They are often seen sunning themselves on country roads, and are often killed by passing vehicles. This one was sunning itself on the gravel road verge of Cockleshell Gully Road in southern Western Australia.
