A group of tourists watched a pride of hungry lioness hunting down a buffalo calf.

In the clip, captured in Kruger National Park, a herd of buffalo charges towards a pride of six lionesses.

As the lionesses move away slightly, the herd of buffalo turns back. One of the lionesses seizes the moment and snatches a young calf from the herd.

She is quickly joined by the rest of the pride trying to bring down the calf.

An adult buffalo attempts to charge the pride but a lioness quickly grabs the calf by the head and runs off with it into the bush with the rest of the lionesses following.

The filmer writes: ''The lionesses disappeared into a thick bush to enjoy their meal while the buffalo decided it was better to move on.

''To see the brutal reality of the African bush happening so quickly right in front of us was something we will never forget.''

Buffalo is majority of the time at the top of the menu for lions in Kruger, but it comes at a huge risk. Buffalo are the most aggressive and dangerous prey animal a lion can possibly hunt. Many lions have been killed by buffalo before. The video shows how members of the buffalo herd suddenly charge towards the lionesses. The female lions moved away slightly. At that very moment one female immediately realized her opportunity and took it. As the charging herd of buffalo turned back, the lioness seized the moment and snatched a young calf from the herd. She was quickly joined by the rest of the pride members trying to bring down the calf. It was not long before the lionesses realized that the whole herd of buffalo will come back charging at them in an attempt to save the calf. One lioness quickly grabbed the calf by the head and ran off with it into the bush with the rest of the lionesses following. The lionesses disappeared into thick bush to enjoy their meal while the buffalo decided it was better to move on.
