Supporters and opponents of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn gathered outside the party's headquarters in London as the ruling National Executive Committee holds crunch talks over anti-Semitism.

Footage filmed today (September 4) shows a group of people waving Israeli flags chanting at a larger group of pro-Corbyn supporters.

The NEC is deciding whether Labour should adopt in full the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of anti-Semitism.

Some examples of this definition were omitted from the party's code of conduct when it was adopted in July.

Senior Labour figures such as Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell hoped the NEC would fully adopt the definition.

But some groups claim it would limit the right to criticise Israeli action against Palestinians.

today see a long start of disciplinary actions among the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party who will be discussing the adoption of ALL examples of the definition on Anti-Semitic published by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
among the proposals will be the reconsideration and possible deselection of Parliamentary party members all on the first day of the new sittings in the house .

Most of these examples are designed to conflate criticism of Israel with Anti-Semitism. If adopted, they would, for example, ban the description of Israel as a racist state. We believe that adopting these examples would be major defeat for the left.

That is of course what this whole campaign is about: to get rid of Corbyn and his supporters and to stop the transformation of the Labour Party into a vehicle for socialist change. For this, we need a culture of open debate and criticism, not a culture of fear and censorship. As socialists, we must defend the right to openly criticize the crimes and injustice committed against the Palestinians.
