A village in the north of England experienced travel chaos as a mains water pipe burst, leaving a busy road flooded all day yesterday (September 5).

The A646 going through Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire, was eventually shut off in both directions for the whole day, causing commuter chaos especially for parents taking their children to school.

A bottled water drop-off service was installed as the local water supply was shut off by Yorkshire Water leaving surrounding areas lacking basic amenities.

The Environmental Agency said: "Yorkshire Water, their contractors Morrisons and Calderdale Council are on site and we are working alongside them to resolve the issue".

They later added: "At this time we do not know the cause or how badly the road has been damaged".

The incident occurred metres away from ongoing flood recovery works which have been taking place over the last two years.
