Mantis defence display
When feeding an adult female Deroplatys truncata praying mantis, i put some maggots in its cage as food but the mantis gave the most bizarre reaction by starting its defence display as if the maggots were a threat to it. The spots on the wings are used to make the mantis look a lot bigger than it is as a predator sees the spots and thinks they are eyes of a much bigger animal and so leaves the small mantis alone......hardly needed against maggots !
