Severe Typhoon Mangkhut brought record rains and winds to Hong Kong on September 16 after killing 64 in the Philippines on Saturday.

This video, taken in the normally crowded shopping area of Causeway Bay, shows the streets quiet as rain poured down and debris laid scattered. Shots were filmed in the vicinity of Great George Street and Jaffe Road.

Authorities said Mangkhut is the most severe storm to hit Hong Kong since records began.

The Typhoon Signal 10 was raised just before 10 am on Sunday, along with the Red rainstorm warning. Mangkhut left a path of destruction in the city, downing trees, smashing windows and cutting out power for thousands of households. Wind speeds were a recorded maximum of 180 km/h.

Mangkhut also ravaged several cities in south China, including Shenzhen, Guangdong and and Zhuhai.

Hong Kong is ravaged by the worst storm of the year, Typhoon Mangkhut. The normally very busy shopping district of Causeway Bay was empty. Causeway Bay would normally be busiest on a Sunday with many Chinese tourists coming specifically to shop in Hong Kong.
