Baby giraffe take first steps thanks to mum at South African national park
This is the moment a baby giraffe took its very tentative first steps with the loving help of its mother, against a stunning backdrop of a national park in South Africa.
In the clip, filmed in Marakele National Park last month, the newborn giraffe is seen attempting to take its first steps.
But after stumbling a few times, the calf managed to master the art of walking - with a little support from its mum.
“We were lucky enough to get close to the mother and her tiny calf, it was a privilege watching this newborn giraffe finding its feet for the first time!” said filmer Hein Myers.
“I have seen many young giraffes in my life but I have never witnessed one this young before. You can clearly see in the video that it was struggling to find its feet and that mom had to help it by pushing against it with her front leg.
“It looks a bit rough but the mother had to get the youngster on its feet as quickly as possible to avoid being detected by predators and scavengers,” Myers continued.
