After a number of years without any significant snowfall in this part of the world the much anticipated storm Emma arrived in the Bath area on Thursday 1st March and combined with the Siberian easterly winds (The Beast from the East) which had given the country very chilly weather during the past week. Whilst planes were grounded and even some main roads became impassable the railways continued to operate, although many trains were cancelled with passengers experiencing very lengthy delays. This short video shows modern trains in action during the severe weather and also scenes from the Avon Valley Railway and local historic places of railway interest.
