Five elephants were killed when they were hit by a fuel tanker train plying from Orugodawatta,Colombo to Batticaloa on Tuesday in north central Sri Lanka.It was later revealed that two of the deceased elephants were pregnant.The tanker train has collided with a herd of elephants crossing the Colombo-Gal Oya railway line near the 127 mile post in Puwakpitiya, Habarana at around 4:30 this morning.The collision has derailed the train engine and two oil tankers severely damaging the track and one tanker has started to leak oil.The locals gathered near the accident site and busy looting the oil from the tankers.The police and Petroleum Corporation officials stopped people from stealing the oil.The train was running at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour, but the train was overloaded when the train was traveling.
