Wayne Austin, 37, took the gown and put it on before cycling away with his loot.
He had ransacked a house after its owners had gone out shopping stealing a laptop, tablets and jewellery.
But a camera picked him up walking past towards the house he would burgle and then half an hour later going past in the gown with an orange bag.
He was arrested three days later and jailed for five years and three months at Maidstone Crown Court after he admitted the burglary in Northfleet, Kent, in August.
