This was the heartwarming moment a heroic tree surgeon rescued a pensioner after she got stranded in her car in high water last Thursday (September 20) in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

In the footage father-of-one Richard Hamshaw can be seen approaching the floating Peugeot 306 and smashing the window using the shackle of a tow rope.

Hamshaw, 32, can be heard telling the "shocked" lady "You need to get out of there", before lifting her out of the car and walking her back to safety. The elderly lady trapped herself after she drove straight into the flood water at high-speed.

The tree surgeon told how he was helping pull other stranded motorists out of the flooded road when the drama unfolded.
