US HURRICANE FLORENCE: Coastal Carolina communities struggle with floods

Buy video

Residents in the coastal regions of North and South Carolina had to contend with severe flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

This video, filmed in Conway, South Carolina, shows an aerial view of the flooded city.

Thousands across the states have been urged to evacuate due to rising rivers, with Conway's Waccamaw River overflowing and inundating neighborhoods in the vicinity. The Great Pee Dee river, another major river, also rose to historic levels.

The storm's deluge has caused a spike in animal bites due to displaced snakes and floodwaters breaching sewer plants has led to slugs of contaminated water spilling toward the coast.

Hurricane Florence, which made landfall as a Category 1 storm on Sept. 14, killed more than 50 people in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, with many of these deaths attributed to victims being trapped in cars during floods.
