Buy video

Spectacular video captured a huge tidal bore several metres high, lashing the shore of the Qiantang River in China.

In the clip, shot in Haining County in eastern Zhejiang Province today (September 26), the huge waves make their way upriver before breaking on the river shore.

Tidal bores are caused by tides passing into narrow inlets or waterways, forming waves much higher than usual.

The tidal bores of the Qiantang River are considered to be the largest of their kind in the world.
