A video has emerged of a man catching a shark in front of surprised holidaymakers on a beach in Maryland, USA.

The footage, captured on Assateague Island in August, shows three men using a fishing rod to land the Sandbar Shark from the shallows.

“I was on a family outing to the beach and this is the first shark I've ever caught. It was 6 feet long and fought for about 20 minutes before we finally pulled it onto the beach. We were able to take the hook out with minimal damage to the shark, take some pictures and release it back into the surf where it swam away” the fisherman later wrote online.
