An old King's Skink lizard eating banana – close-up
The King’s Skink (Egernia kingii) is a large, omnivorous, live-bearing skink lizard that is found mainly close to the coast in south-western Australia. King’s Skinks grow to 55 centimetres (22 inches) long and adults weigh up to about 220 grams (8 ounces). Females give birth to 2-8 live young. This old skink with a damaged tail was tempted from his hiding place by pieces of banana, which he sniffed out, then wolfed down before scuttling back into cover.
