OCT. 4: Locals watch as lava erupts from Mount Soputan, Indonesia following the quake
Mount Soputan in Southeast Minahasa, North Sulawesi erupted at Wednesday night.
Video filmed from the mountain slope at Langowan which is only less than 200 meters on Thursday October 4, at 0:05 a.m., shows lava slide to the northeast of 2,500 meters from the crater at the top of the mountain.
Head of the Data Information and Public Relations Center of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, told the media that the eruption began on Wednesday october 3, 8.47am made mountain status elevated to Level 3.
The government calls on people to avoid lava and heat clouds generated.
"From morning to night, Soputan erupted with 4,000-6,000 meters of volcanic ash and released lava and hot clouds leading west-southwest," Sutopo said.
The eruption of the Soputan volcano was the latest natural disaster to impact the Indonesian island of Sulawesi in recent weeks, September, 28.
