During December and with the approaching breeding season imminent Red Foxes Vulpes vulpes become relatively active during the hours of daylight. This vixen had been very visible during the day although she was often to be seen sleeping at ground level in a secluded spot at the bottom of the photographer's garden. However during the week or so before this film was taken she had been venturing onto the roofs of garden sheds. This rather charming and intimate sequence shot just before sunset gives an intimate insight into her daytime behaviour and into the typical suburban habitat used by urban foxes - these days a veritable miniature city of garden sheds against a background of loft-extensions. Late afternoon ambient noises include the almost inevitable ambulance sirens, children playing in a nearby school and the distinctive whirring of the rotors of a military Chinook helicopter flying over the London suburbs in the distance.
