Ladybirds swarm around UK house seeking warmth for coming winter

A cluster of ladybirds began to swarm around a house in England yesterday's (October 10) particularly warm sunny spell, seeking warmth for the coming winter.

Native ladybirds are known for this behaviour, but recently another breed of Harlequin ladybirds has been appearing in Manchester, among other cities, to also seek shelter.

These insects are known to carry a fungus that can infect the native ladybirds, harming their ability to breed. Pest control authorities believe the Harlequins are not harmful to humans, but advise people to seal off and try and keep hibernating ladybirds out of their homes.
