India's eastern coast suffered a beating as Cyclone Titli made landfall today.

Winds of up to 150 kph (93 mph) struck the states of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, leaving eight dead.

Footage filmed on Thursday in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, shows trees being uprooted and heavy winds scattering debris.

Near the coast, tides were measured of up to 10ft (3m) and storm surges were reported.

Between 400,000 and 500,000 are now without electricity.

Cyclone Titli, a very severe cyclonic storm, hit the Andhra Pradesh coast near Palasa in the southern state’s Srikakulam district early on Thursday as it uprooted trees, twisted electric poles and dumped heavy rains in the area.Cyclone Titli battered Palasa municipality badly, bringing life to a standstill and several mandals in Srikakulam district continued to reel under pitched darkness.Seawater entered houses in Uppada in East Godavari district as the maximum of the height of the tides was of 10ft along the coast close to the point of landfall.
