An attempt to outwit an Indian tigress went pear-shaped when a hang glider failed to take off during a test flight in the Yavatmal district, Maharashtra, India.

The footage captured last week (October 10) shows the pilot veer to the left of the runway leading him to a ditch where he was promptly rescued by Indian officials.

This is the most recent attempt to capture a notorious tigress dubbed "T1". Villagers in the local Ralegaon region have lost 13 people to tiger attacks since June 2016 and five of the deaths have been blamed on T1 alone.

Over 200 personnel, 90 trap cameras, thermal drones, elephants, a sharpshooter and sniffer dogs are pursuing T1, who has proved to be extraordinarily elusive.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Wildlife, A K Mishra said: “It can give a bird’s eye view of the terrain and can be useful.”

A hang-glider brought in to join a massive hunt for a man-eater tigress in India crashed during a test flight.

The glider failed to take off and fell into a ditch after veering to its left.

The pilot was rescued immediately and was not injured.

Indian officials said the technical problem will be fixed and the glider will be pressed to service.

The glider was brought in to locate a man-eater tigress named T 1 in the forests of Yavatmal district, Maharashtra, India.

Villagers in the Ralegaon region have lost 13 people to tiger attacks since June 2016 and five of the deaths have been blamed on T1 alone.

T1’s fate was hotly debated and the Indian Supreme Court approved on September 11 a proposal to hunt down the six-year-old tigress, who has been declared a maneater.

Indian officials have been chasing T1 for nearly 50 days now in a round-the-clock operation.
