Surprise proposal from my Han Solo at Arkansas Comic Con - September 8th 2018

Dan and I have been in a long distance relationship for 3 years. We first met at the London MCM Expo / Comic Con back in 2015. He was in the Air Force at the time and was stationed at Lakenheath… Typical I had to meet him a few months before he flew back to America! We’ve visited each other through the past 3 years, but it’s only ever been a week or two each time.

At the end of June this year, I travelled to America to visit Dan for 3 months as his girlfriend. However, I became his fiancé at the Arkansas Comic Con!!

Dan and I went as Han Solo and Princess Leia (... and yes, we know he looks a little more like Chewie instead, with the face fuzz haha). We were walking around together, when we spotted an R2-D2 down for maintenance. We walked up to the man working on it (Chris Campbell, an R2-D2 builder and 501st member!) to ask for a photo with R2 after he had fixed it.

He was more than happy for us to have a photo with it, and as I walked off to place my bags down, Dan gave Chris a heads up that he was about to propose to me! It was such a wonderful and surreal experience, he was proposing to me as Han Solo, we were at a little comic convention and there was a crowd of people watching it all happen too! Another great thing was that some of Dan’s family also came to Arkansas Comic Con with us and were also filming the special moment. They knew what was going to happen, I didn’t even click they’d all be there for any particular reason other than we all went to the con as a family.

I had a feeling he would propose to me during my 3 months in America, I just didn't register that he would propose to me during a comic con! So for me it was still a surprise to say the least!!

We can all look back on this day, as we have a wonderful video that we can watch and cherish forever.

He told me after that he thought since we first met at a comic con, what better way than to propose at one, too.

I don’t know if we’ll have our wedding at a comic convention! Although, I have heard of couples officially marrying at Dragon Con…
