This is the terrifying moment a suicidal woman was saved after throwing herself off a bridge into a river in northwestern India.

A video of the incident, which was captured on Friday (November 2) in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, shows the woman standing on the edge of the bridge, 20 feet up above a river.

A friend of the woman's brother, identified as Rashid, approaches the woman and then tries to grab her but she jumps off the bridge.

Rashid catches her by the arm but is unable to hold her and she falls into the water below.

A remarkably brave police officer now dives off the bridge and with the help of two young locals manages to rescue the woman.

According to police, the 30-year-old woman was taken into custody.
