Massive smoke cloud engulfs Northern California sky as Camp Fire devastates city

A fast-moving blaze in Paradise, Butte County, forced more than 30,000 people to flee on Thursday, November 8.

Camp Fire was ignited at around 6:30 am and exploded to more than 18,000 acres in just the first eight hours, turning the daytime sky black. A hospital a Mormon church and a McDonald's were among the buildings that burned to the ground.

This video, filmed at around 1 pm in Chico, shows the overhanging smoke cloud.

There were no official reports of damage at the time of writing, but media outlets report more than 1,000 homes burned and multiple fatalities.
