Seven tons of toxic chemicals leak into water near Chinese fishing village
A toxic substance called C9 aromatic hydrocarbon leaked into water near
a village in eastern China, threatening the health and livelihood of local fishermen and residents.
The video, filmed in Quanzhou City in southern Fujian Province on November 4, shows several fishermen standing on a boat trying to clean the polluted water, and sick villagers can be seen later being treated in hospital.
According to local reports, an old tube connecting a vessel transporting the chemical to the wharf broke, causing 6.97 tons of C9 spilling out.
The ensuing toxic pollution caused 52 residents to fall ill, later being taken to hospital for treatment.
More than 100 boats and 600 people were sent to use absorbent
materials to measure the pollution in the water, while the case was being investigated by authorities.
