Flash flooding in Jordan has killed 11 people and forced the evacuation of close to 4,000 tourists from the ancient city of Petra, according to officials.

Rescue teams are still searching for five people who were swept away in their car in Madaba, south-west of the capital, Amman.

Authorities also declared a state of emergency in the port city of Aqaba due to the downpours.

On Nov. 9th 2018, I was guiding in Petra in Jordan. The authority expected rain to happens so that we were alerted to be careful with possibility to have flash floods might happen. Around 3pm local time it started to rain for short time of about half an hour and because Petra location is in a valley, so the possibility of floods to come down the valley even from another further areas is possible.

Luckily, no body was injured or lost because of the floods and the authorities with the locals inside the site cooperated to evacuating the tourists from the site.
