Smoke clouds the skies over Paradise and Magalia, Northern California, some 100 miles north of Sacramento, as the destructive Camp Fire sweeps through the area.

Nine people have died and more than 6,500 homes have been lost to the fire, forcing residents to completely evacuate.

At the same time, the massive Woolsey and Hill fires continued to burn in Southern California, leading to mass evacuations.

Five hours after the start of the Camp Fire the smoke column exploded over Paradise and Magalia. This was the beginning of what has proven to be the most destructive fire in California history. Over 6000 homes were lost, many historic building and the historic Honey Run Covered Bridge in beautiful Butte Creek Canyon. The death toll continues to mount. The fire has charred over 100,000 acres of Butte County in less than two days. Control of the blaze will take weeks. This is another in the string of record setting fires plaguing California due to the changing climate.
