“Talent alone isn’t enough. The key to success is hard work.”

Ski ace and world-class athlete Marcel Hirscher’s name is synonymous with success, strength under pressure and absolute fitness. What makes him so strong—what’s the difference? For the first time, the seven-time Overall World Cup winner, World Champion and Olympic victor and his partner Under Armour grant an exclusive glimpse of his training program. Because as Marcel Hirscher says: “Talent alone isn’t enough. The key to success is hard work.”

In cooperation with his trainers Gernot Schweizer and Clemens Diwald, Marcel Hirscher is constantly pushing his personal physical limits in training as well as in competition—because the foundation for a successful ski season and consistent high-level performance is built off of the pistes.

For a ski racer like Hirscher, who tears down World Cup pistes at speeds up to 100 km/h, fitness is the top priority: “My body is my life insurance. The right training makes me strong, protects me from injuries and helps ensure that I don’t get sick during the winter. That’s how—when everything goes right—I can give 100-percent from the first race to the last.” In order to keep his motivation high, the elite athlete utilizes a varied and unconventional training routine—even including self-designed training devices—specially crafted to strengthen the relevant muscle groups and other physical factors for top-level ski performance. For Hirscher, there’s no such thing as a “normal training day.”
