This is the moment a posse of policemen flee in different directions to dodge an angry elephant.

The men in uniform spotted the behemoth in the early hours of November 28 near Sabarimala in South India.

Realising that the animal was charging towards them, they abandoned their check-post and fled for their lives.

A CCTV camera at the check-post captured the men running for their lives as the animal bursts upon them aggressively.

The elephant chased one of them for some distance and then went back to the forest.

Male elephants, which are separated from a herd and live alone, are known for their foul temper and aggressive behaviour.

Sabarimala in Kerala has been rocked by protests after India’s Supreme Court lifted a ban on women entering a temple there. The policemen were part of the personnel deployed in the region to keep order.
