The Watermelon Man was inspired on a number of different aspects and experiences in my youth. Experimentation in university was a means to create something visual art performance style based on it.. but the aspect of the Watermelon first was inspired during my first year of Art school university days project.. As I recall I was driving to my parents house and it was a sun shiny Saturday morning. As I drove I saw Watermelon smashed and glistening on the road: a lorry had lost its load of fruit.. so.. then in my classroom project I smashed a watermelon on a grid.. and created a transient style decaying like artwork with a green fluorescent light.. but it wasn’t until a few years later with more components of experiences that I put the Watermelon together with other aspects. It was enhanced in a research project during my post graduate studies at RMIT university in Melbourne.. here I smashed watermelon as part of a fringe festival performance.. and it was part of an assessment performance art .. it was performed live in front of an audience in a festival.. so .. at first I aimed to just smash the watermelon with a hammer but I got wild and crazy threw the watermelon in the air it came falling down on my head as it smashed after that .. I always smashed it on my head..Watermelon Man consists of blue and red body paint. Blue being yin energy and red being yang energy. The creature is a representation of individuals overwhelmed by stress. The creature expels a great deal of Yang energy via extreme vocals. The entire performance is about getting a balance
