Blind rescued dog has his own service dog to guide him when he goes out and about
In the Philippines, service dogs are almost non-existent. But there is one guide dog that services not a blind human, but a blind dog! Ginger, a Golden Retriever mix is almost 13 years old, and she's the best friend. and guide dog to Kimchi, a totally-blind Cocker Spaniel who was rescued from the streets in 2012. When found, Kimchi was thin, mangy, with flea-infested matted fur. He was so weak, and almost completely blind. He was adopted by Eric and Thea, because their dog at that time, Ginger, chose him. She growled at all the other dogs save for Kimchi. They soon became best friends and in 2015, when Kimchi went totally blind, Ginger became his guide when they go out.
In the video, Ginger can be seen patiently guiding Kimchi down the stairs of B-Hotel QC, a pet-friendly hotel in the capital of the Philippines. Ginger goes down 1 step, and waits for Kimchi to follow, before she takes another step. Without Ginger, Kimchi would not have gone down at all. Kimchi gets his confidence from his soul-sibling.
It was this unique relationship that made this particular video go viral in September and October 2018. It was shared by numerous media companies around the world and garnered massive interest to the tune of over 20M views combined on FB. The international doggo celebrities are actually involved in mental health awareness activities back home. They are often invited to schools, companies, government agencies, hospitals, and senior homes to provide animal-assisted intervention, and humane education.
