Demonstrators in the Greek city of Thessaloniki fired fireworks and flares at police on Thursday night after marches on the 10th anniversary of the fatal police shooting of a teenager turned violent.

Police responded with stun grenades and tear gas.

Alexandros Grigoropoulos was 15 when he was shot dead during a night out with friends in central Athens on December 6, 2008.

He was killed when a policeman fired his gun after an altercation.

The policeman said later that Grigoropoulos was killed by a ricochet.

The teenager's death sparked the largest riots Greece had seen in decades
