Dramatic footage shows a high-speed police chase with a pick-up truck after a motorbike rider let a gun-wielding cop ride pillion.

The 21-year-old driver of the silver Isuzu D Max was involved in a hit-and-run. It then broke through a police check-point.

Several police cars gave chase before a brave civilian in shorts and flip-flops offered to help with his powerful blue Honda bike.

Chainarong Sookoon, 30, kept his cool, giving chase as a policeman sat on the back while letting out several rounds from a handgun at the runaway truck.

One of the bullets punctured a wheel, but the fugitive continued driving even with sparks flying over the road.

After a staggering 20km, Officers eventually surrounded the car and arrested the driver, Kietisak Srisaema, who allegedly tested positive for drugs.

The suspect was arrested and told police he was ''stressed'' after an argument with his wife.

Police Colonel Kritsanat Wongklaharn from the Ao Luek district station praised have-a-go-hero Chainarong for his bravery.

He said: ''The truck refused to stop at police checkpoints and four cars gave chase. One motorbike rider who is a member of the public also offered to help. His actions were courageous and in the spirit of helping the community.''

The suspect, Kietisak Srisaema, had been charged with driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving and failing to stop after an accident.
