Maine farmer makes enormous bass out of wooden beam
Geof Hancock, a farmer (and pedal builder), from Casco, Maine, has built a giant bass instrument out of steel cables, cattle fence parts and a 6" x 8" x 12' eastern white pine beam.
"This instrument is inspired by Mickey Hart's beam," he said, referencing one of Grateful Dead's drummers.
"While soothing melodic sounds can come from The Beam, I built this for loud, low, cacophonous sounds.," he added. He wired four different P-Bass Pickups in series to capture the sounds it made.
"I use The Beam to help the sweet corn grow sweeter," he added.
Geof's farm is the Hancock Family Farm, and his pedal business is Farm Pedals. The footage was filmed on September 2, 2018.
