A video captured by passengers onboard shows smoke engulfing the cabin, cockpit and lavatory of an IndiGo flight.

The flight took off from Jaipur in northern India and was headed Kolkata in the eastern part of the country.

The smoke started filling in the cabin when the flight was around 45 miles away from its destination.

According to the ministry of aviation sources, the A-320 Airbus was approximately 45 miles from Kolkata when the pilots onboard the airliner transmitted a ''Mayday'' call on the radio, indicating to Air Traffic Control that the aircraft and passengers on board were in danger.

According to the authorities, the ''smoke (was detected) in the cockpit, cabin and lavatory.''

The plane made an emergency landing after which passengers at the rear of the plane were rescued using a slide.
