A tragic footage has emerged of a wild elephant dead and stuck on the fence while trying to cross railway tracks at Veerna Hosalli of South Indian state of Karnataka.

The elephant was a part of a heard that a raided a nearby village Bharthawadi. When the villagers were chasing them, the tusker got stuck on the fencing erected near the tracks while trying to jump over it and disappear in the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve. According to the local residents, the elephant remained stuck on the iron pole for the entire night, writhing in pain. But no one went near it as they feared an imminent attack from other heard members who might be guarding their stuck friend.

In the morning, the villagers informed the forest rangers. By the time the rescue team arrived, it was too late.
