In a tragic incident, a wild tusker died while crossing a railway fence at Veeranahoshalli in Karnataka in southern India.

The wild tusker that belonged to the Nagarahole National Park in Karnataka was said to be chased from the Bharathawadi village by the villagers after it raided the village.

Chased by the villagers, the wild giant ran towards the railway fence and tried jumping over the fence in order to cross it but its hind legs got stuck behind and its heavy body fell on the metal fence.

The impact with which the pachyderm fell on the fence was heavy enough to kill it.

The experts believe the animal’s internal organ had received an injury due to its heavy weight killing it on the spot.

A wildlife medical expert said, “The elephant tried to jump over the railway fence but was unable to balance its body weight and the internal organs might have got ruptured killing it instantly.”

A few villagers who spotted the animal lying dead on the fence the next morning raised an alarm, they later informed the forest officials who then arrived to clear the carcass from the spot.

The incident has now drawn the wrath of the animal lovers who said that blocking the passage of the elephants was one of the reasons it had died. They also asked the government to remove such fences citing them as ‘Death fence.’

A wildlife lover Bhagya Lakshmi said, “Now these Railway Track Fencings are becoming a ‘Death Trap’ For Wildlife. May his Soul Rest in Peace.”
