A family had a lucky escape on Saturday when a storm blew down a huge tree right next to their home in a suburb of Sydney, Australia.

The filmer was recording lashing winds, rain and hail outside their home on Oxford Avenue in Castle Hill, when the tree suddenly came crashing down in the garden, just a few feet away from their front entrance.

"My family, including two kids, were in the living room as the tree fell. Lucky the tree did not fall on the house," the filmer said.

"The tree is still there in the backyard and it’s massive. Neighbours came by to see if everyone was okay," she added.

"We had never experienced a storm like this one in Sydney in summer. More than happy no-one got hurt," the filmer said.

This happened today in my backyard at 4:23 pm. I live in Oxford Avenue castle hill 2154 NSW Australia. The tree fell down on the 15th of December 2018. My family, including 2 kids, were in the living room as the tree fell. Lucky the tree did not fall on the house. The tree is still there in the backyard and it’s massive. Neighbors came by to see if everyone was okay. It shocked us, first the storm started with hail, then rain, and then branches flying off trees. We had never experienced a storm like this one in Sydney in summer. More than happy no one got hurt. Now it’s funny to look back at the video recording of our reactions and the tree falling.
