Forest officials have launched a mission to capture two rogue elephants that were said to have wreaked a havoc in the village hamlets near Periyanayakanpayalam of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu in southern India.

The mission is named as ‘Operation Vinayak’ where the forest officials have now decided to take the rogue elephants to task by capturing them and rehabilitating in some other forest as a part of the operation.

Both the wild giants named Vinayagam and Chinnathambi often entered the farmlands and destroyed the crops of the farmers. The rogues also had killed a few villagers after which the villagers raised the issue with the forest department.

The forest officials then started the operation whose ulterior motive was to capture the rogue tuskers and rehabilitate them into a different forest that was away from the farmlands.

As a part of the mission, four Kumki elephants were rounded up around one of the tuskers in order to have a clear shot of the tranquillizer.

In the video, the forest officials can be seen arriving near the forest with elephants and JCB excavators to tranquillize one of the tuskers and transport it to the nearby forest away from the farmlands.

Four medical teams were also deployed to monitor the health of the tusker after it is tranquillized.

The tusker can be seen running on the road bringing the traffic to a standstill as it then escapes towards the forest.

The officials then direct the JCB drivers to pull down the branches of the tree to block the way for the tusker so that it becomes easy to shoot the tranquillizer on its body.
