Five-year-old Deryk gets a miracle puppy from his mother after a difficult past few years for them both.

The puppy, named Jorgy, emerges from his box much to Deryk's delight.

"My first son, Deryk’s brother passed away at birth, a year and a half before Deryk was born," said his mother. "Shortly after my divorce my mother lost her battle to cancer and shortly after my mother’s passing my grandmother passed."

Deryk, despite his tender years, is already no stranger to loss, she says, and dogs have always been his passion. "Stuffed animals, clay pieces to paint, stickers, the dog parks, any dog we passes he wants to friend," she added.

Despite Deryk having suffered from allergies from a young age, he was recently cleared of a dog allergy. Around the same time, Jorgy's owner posted an advert on Facebook as they could no longer manage him. "I decided he’d be a perfect fit for our somewhat broken and grief stricken home," she said. She then sourced the North Pole mailbox and prepared the big reveal while he was at daycare.

"Jorgy went and was groomed and then dressed up in his Santa Suit for the big occasion. I blind folded Deryk with the help of friends and staged the area in front of our Christmas tree."

Deryk gave Jorgy the middle name 'Hugh', just as him, and his late older brother both had as their middle name.

I’m happy to share how Jorgy became Deryk’s Dog.

I’m a single Mother to Deryk. My first son, Deryk’s brother passed away at birth, a year and a half before Deryk was born. My marriage failed after the loss of our son. Shortly after my divorce my mother lost her battle to cancer and shortly after my mother’s passing my grandmother passed. Leaving me with no parents, no grandparents for Deryk and a little boy I miss so much. I always visited being married forever and have many babies. Deryk who’s 5 understands these losses exist and I would say he’s acknowledged them the most this year as he turned five in September. Asking if he prayed hard enough could his brother come to his birthday party, thanking god his Mom isn’t dead like mine. For years Deryk has asked for a dog. Everything related to dogs is his passion, stuffed animals, clay pieces to paint, stickers, the dog parks, any dog we passes he wants to friend. He was born with many allergies including nuts, eggs, cats, dogs. This past September he was cleared from his dog allergy. Jorgy was posted on Facebook by his original owner who couldn’t manage him anymore and knew giving him up would be best for the dog. I inquired and after a few visits (without Deryk) I decided he’d be a perfect fit for our somewhat broken and grief stricken home. He already had brought us an immense amount of love. I found the perfect mailbox from the North Pole and decided it would be a perfect prop for presenting Jorgy to his new big brother. Deryk went to his local at home daycare while I prepped the big reveal. Jorgy went and was groomed and then dressed up in his Santa Suit for the big occasion. I blind folded Deryk with the help of friends and staged the area in front of our Christmas tree. My melted with love with Deryk’s reaction to his new best friend. It’s amazing and beautiful to watch him love his new puppy. I may not have been able to give Deryk a human dividing but I sure did make his dream come true by giving him a fur sibling.

We live in Bradford, MA 01835. This was December 12, 2018. I’m an emergency room nurse at a local inner city hospital. Deryk is an active, sweet heart of a boy who enjoys playing at parks, fishing, camping, riding his bike, Martial Arts and now most of all his new Maltese Jorgy born 5/18/18.

PS. Deryk gave Jorgy his own middle name Hugh which is the same as him and his brother in heavens. He also requested that Jorgy have the letter Y in his name like him and his brother Donovyn in heaven. Kid has a heart of gold.
