Police, neighboring residents and forest officials were in for a scare when a leopard sneaked into a police station in Kotwali, located in the northwest India city of Chittorgarh, on Sunday.

According to local media, residents fled their homes as the male leopard entered the area before slipping into the police station compound. Forest officials arrived on scene and laid a trap, but the leopard, sensing commotion, never made its way near it and retreated to the bush.

After dusk, officials used search lights to continue the operation, eventually catching and tranquilizing the creature.

People left their homes and shifted to terraces of their buildings fearing leopard and watched it to be caught.adult male leopard slipped into the residential area in Meera Nagar on saturday night and hid behind a house. In the morning few people saw the beast which roamed around the area and reached the veterinary hospital. Leopard managed to slip into the adjoining police station compound.
The police station staff was too terrified to know about the beast that they closed all the windows and doors of the police quarters and shifted to higher buildings.Meanwhile the forest officials arrived at the spot and laid a trap. Sensing the commotion the beast got inside a bush and stayed there for the whole day. After dusk, search lights were arranged to continue the search operation and finally the leopard was caught and tranquilized.
