An Indian railway official risked his life to get a train moving after a prankster pulled emergency chain of a train.

Train Number 16219 came to a sudden halt on a 70-feet tall girder bridge near Srirangapatna in South India on December 26.

As the prankster pulled the chain the braking system got activated and stopped the train.

Senior Passenger Guard Vishnumoorthy, who was on duty, knew that he had to walk up to coach and restore the chain link to get the train moving again.

To his shock he found that there was no walkway on the bridge to give him a safe passage.

So, to reach the coach from outside, he had to climb down on the bridge, walk on the beams and fix the chain without any support.

Vishnumoorthy walked carefully and managed the feat in 10 minutes as concerned passengers watched from inside. He also managed to catch the prankster and handed him over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Ajay Kumar Singh, general manager, South Western Railway (SWR), handed over a commendation certificate and a cash award of Rs 5,000 Vishnumoorthy.
