At least 10 participants were left injured during a religious bull-taming festival known as ''Jalikattu'' that was organized in Tamil Nadu in southern India.

In the video, participants can be seen trying to tame a free wild bull as it tries to gore them down. The participants run along with the bull to control it but it shakes its head to knock down the participant in order to gore them.

The event was conducted with 500 bulls in participation but was organized illegally and stopped midway.

Gold coin, bicycles and cots were put up as consolation prizes that drew almost 300 participants to register in the event.

''Jalikattu'' is a famous bull-taming festival that has been prevalent in the south Indian state for almost 2,500 years.

Close to 300 bull-tamers registered themselves and participated in the event.
The event was organised without prior permission
The first jallikattu -- a traditional bull-taming sport of Tamil Nadu -- of the year 2019 was conducted on 02 Januray with 500 bulls in Ariyalur District Tamil Nadu India. The event, organised without prior permission, was stopped midway and a case was filed in this regard.

Bulls were brought by owners from District of Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Trichy and Perambalur in Tamil Nadu India.
Ten were badly injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Gold coins, cycles and cots were given as gifts to the winners.

Jallikattu is believed to be a tradition as old as 2,500 years. It is a sport conducted as part of Mattu Pongal, the third day of the four-day-long harvest festival Pongal.

Temple bulls from different villages are brought to a common arena where jallikattu happens.

On May 7, 2014, the Supreme Court of India banned jallikattu.

The Supreme Court ruled that flouting the ban would attract penalties and upheld the ban on January 14, 2016,

In January 2017, lakhs protested at Tamil Nadu's Marina Beach against the ban, after which the state government passed. challenged the amendment again after which the Supreme Court said a constitutional bench would decide whether jallikattu is a cultural right.
