Rogue leopard climbs atop tree to avoid being lynched by angry villagers in India
A group of villagers rounded up a rogue leopard in order to capture and kill it in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan in India.
According to the villagers, the leopard had created a fear psychosis in the minds of people in the past one as the big cat attacked and mauled several people in the past six days.
The villagers were forced to stay indoors fearing an imminent attack by the feline. The villagers had informed the forest officials about the stray animal. The rescue team arrived at the scene but couldn't locate the leopard and went back. Soon, the villagers spotted the animal atop a tree and tried to over power the animal and burn it to death.
One of the villagers raised an alarm and hundreds of them gathered with sticks and stones 'to eliminate the menace'.
In the video, a group of men can be seen trying to beat the leopard with sticks while it is atop a tree. The animal loses the balance and falls down. As soon as it lands on the ground, the villagers are seen charging raining sticks and stones at the big cat.
The leopard somehow manages to run away as the villagers give it a hot chase.
Sensing trouble, the forest officials rushed to the spot only to be chased away by the villagers as they didn’t help the villagers earlier.
The forest officials fought through the crowd hell-bent on killing the animal and rescued the leopard.
After several attempts they managed to tranquilise the beast and whisked away to a safer place.
Later, the tranquillized leopard was taken by the forest officials in a cage to be inspected and then released into the forest.
