A bride covered her face and wept after she claimed that while the newly weds cut their wedding cake they found it was made out of "polystyrene" in Pasig City, the Philippines.

A bride broke down in tears and had her caterer arrested after cutting into her wedding cake - only to find it was made from polystyrene.

Shine Tamayo, 26, and her partner Jhon (Corr) Chen, 40, paid a wedding planner 140,000 pesos (2,100GBP) to supply all the food and decorations for their ceremony in Pasig City, the Philippines, on December 3.

They left the church and arrived at a hotel for the reception - claiming only to find that the company had failed to supply the food for their guests.

Determined to continue with their big day, they said they carried trays full of noodles and other local cuisine from a restaurant across the road.

The exhausted bride claimed they were forced to serve out greasy street food and cups of blackcurrant squash to her guests.

Then when Shine was supposed to be performing the highlight and went to cut their cake-she said she sliced through the icing only to discover it had been stuffed with polystyrene.

The humiliated bride covered her face and broke down in floods of tears in front of her family and friends.

She was so distraught that guests took her to the local police station where officers inspected to two-tier wedding cake - confirming that the base was made entirely from foam wrapped in red icing.
