Whooper Swans chant during Aurora in Iceland

Buy video

While watching the northern lights in eastern Iceland on the night of October 7-8, 2018 during the Kp5 G1 geomagnetic storm, we were approaching midnight and it was getting a bit calmer and fainter than earlier in the evening, so we drove around to find interesting spots to watch the skies, arrived at a lagoon with hundreds of whooper swans, right along the main road, they were awake and chanting and even some of them were flying occasionnally... it was amazing to see them and the aurora together. Filmed in realtime at 25 fps and 1/25th second shutter speed at very high ISO , with a Sony a7s mark2 and two different lenses, some scenes with a Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 but most with a Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 .
Location was along ringroad 1 between Starmíry and Höfn , at the Hvalnes Nature Reserve Beach.
