This is a touching story of a female dog caring for and even feeding a calf whose mother has fallen sick.

A cow fell sick after eating plastic bags at a garbage dump in Shirur, Maharashtra, India, on January 10. As local residents gathered around to save the cow, the hungry calf walked around looking for food.

It came across a dog, which had given birth to a litter. As astonished people watched the calf bent down and started drinking milk from the dog, which happily fed her.

The dog and the calf struck an instant friendship. Missing her sick mother, the calf licked the dog all over her body.

The dog went off after sometime to feed her pups, but returned later in the day to be with the calf.

“The calf and the dog were seen together in the night also. The cow is now recovering,” said a local resident, Jairam Naik.
