Killer elephant who trampled a villager to death sparks panic after walking along road
A notorious wild elephant that killed one human and attacked four others was seen walking along a motorway in search of food.
The seven-tonne jumbo was spotted stomping along a highway yesterday (10/01) 2019 in Chanthaburi, eastern Thailand, at 11pm.
Terrified locals barricaded themselves inside while wildlife officials closed roads and stalked the bull along the tarmac and through nearby buildings.
Rangers in the Makham identified the elephant as the same creature who had killed a resident last year and injured at least four others over the last few years.
They suspect that he was acting aggressively while in search for a mate and had ventured out of nearby jungle.
Ranger Somjit Chopayom said: ''This elephant has a history of being aggressive. He has attacked other elephants and four people in the last four years. He was also the bull responsible for killing a villager in June last year.
''Many of people here were afraid when they saw he was walking around. They feared he would return to attack villagers again.
''They're also afraid he will damage their agricultural crops. We have to advise people that loud noises, guns and fire crackers will scare him more and cause more danger.''
